Natural disasters, such as earthquakes,
volcanic eruptions, landslides, debris flows, tsunamis, storms, floods, and
their disaster chains, etc., all manifest as transient events on the geological
time scale and leave behind different types of sedimentary records. By
analyzing these event sediments preserved in terrestrial and marine
environments, key information such as the occurrence time, scale, intensity,
and history of disaster events can be obtained, which helps to understand their
occurrence processes, development mechanisms, and evolution laws. This not only
contributes to a deeper understanding of the abrupt change processes in the
Earth system but also provides scientific support for disaster prevention and
mitigation.
In order to timely showcase the scientific
research progress in the field of "event sedimentology" at home and
abroad and the latest related trends (such as the relevant content of the
future scientific plans of the International Ocean Discovery Program, etc.),
and to provide diversified knowledge services for research in the field of
earth sciences, the journal "Advances in Earth Science" specially
launches a special column on "event sedimentation and disaster
history". This special column is jointly chaired by Researcher Liu Weiming
(Chengdu Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment, Chinese Academy of
Sciences & Ministry of Water Resources) and Researcher Lu Yin (State Key
Laboratory of Marine Geology, Tongji University), and is planned to be published
(in the regular issue) in the first half of 2024.
I. Scope of Contributions for the Special
Column (including but not limited to)
Analysis, observation, simulation, and
experimental studies of the records of various disaster events (such as
sedimentation related to earthquake, volcanic events, etc.).
II. Specially Invited Manuscript
Solicitation Experts for the Special Column
Researcher Liu Weiming, Chengdu Institute
of Mountain Hazards and Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences & Ministry
of Water Resources, Email: liuwm@imde.ac.cn
Researcher Lu Yin, State Key Laboratory of
Marine Geology, Tongji University, Email: yinlu@tongji.edu.cn
III. Deadline for Submissions: November 1,
2023
IV. Submission Method
Please submit your manuscript through the
official website of "Advances in Earth Science" (http://www.adearth.ac.cn).
The manuscript should be written in Chinese. When submitting, please indicate
that it is a manuscript for the "event sedimentation and disaster
history" special column. The types of manuscripts are not limited
(research papers, reviews, and comments are all acceptable), and the length of
the paper should be within 15,000 words. For the submission template and
specific requirements, please refer to the submission guidelines on the
journal's homepage.
We sincerely invite experts and scholars in
the related fields of "event sedimentology" at home and abroad to
submit their papers enthusiastically!
