Advances in Earth Science，monthly, is a comprehensive, academic journal published in China from 1986 and co-sponsored by the Earth Sciences Department of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), the Bureau of Science and Technology for Resources and Environment of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Scientific Information Center for Resources and Environment of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
The objectives and tasks of this journal are: to review the current situation and development of Earth sciences and resources and environmental sciences, including Earth system science, global change and sustainable development research at home and abroad; to reveal the development tendency of major comprehensive and interdisciplinary fields; to report information on frontier sciences and interdisciplines; to reflect the application practice of high technologies and new methods; to introduce the planning strategy, implementation and management mechanisms of international science and technology programs; to report the organization, implementation and the innovative research results of the key national research programs; to evaluate the innovative research competitiveness and influence of the scientific research institutions at home and abroad.

Advances in Earth Science has been honored with outstanding science & technology journals of China for many years by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China. In 1992, it was awarded “the second session of the outstanding scientific and technical journals” of Gansu Province. In 1999, it was awarded “the second national excellent geographic journals” in China. It was awarded “the third class prizes of the Chinese Academy of Sciences” in 2001. At the same time, it was included in the Chinese journals double-effect matrix, which was held by the Press and Publication Administration and the Ministry of Science and Technology of the government. Advances in Earth Science won the name of Excellent Journals in Gansu Province in 2008. It was as “RCCSE” China's “Core Academic Journals” of Impact Assessment Report of Chinese Academic Journals for four consecutive sessions. It was named CAJ-CD specification award winner by China National Knowledge Infrastructure in 2010. It was named one of China's most influential international academic journals from 2012 and 2013, and named China's most influential outstanding academic journals in 2014 and 2015. It has won third class prize of Excellent Periodical of the Chinese Academy of Sciences for three years. Advances in Earth Science received the priority funding from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2015.
Advances in Earth Science enjoys high reputation both at home and abroad.
