Dear Authors,
Greetings! In order to promote the open
sharing of scientific data, "Advances in Earth Science" advocates
that the data associated with the data papers published in our journal should
be submitted to the National Cryosphere Desert Data Center (http://www.ncdc.ac.cn/), or
other public data platforms.
The linked data of scientific and
technological journals mainly refers to the observational or experimental data
used to support and verify the research results of relevant papers, which is
often referred to as "research data" in the journal community. In
April 2018, the General Office of the State Council issued the "Measures
for the Management of Scientific Data" (hereinafter referred to as the
"Measures", http://www.gov.cn/zhengce/content/2018-04/02/content_5279272.htm).
The "Measures" clearly define the overall principles, main
responsibilities, data collection, submission and preservation, sharing and
utilization, confidentiality and security of scientific data management in
China. In March 2020, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and
the State Council issued the "Opinions on Building a More Complete
Market-oriented Allocation System and Mechanism for Factors" (hereinafter
referred to as the "Opinions", http://www.gov.cn/zhengce/2020-04/09/content_5500622.htm).
The "Opinions" include data within the scope of production factors
and propose to "accelerate the cultivation of the data factor market,
promote the open sharing of government data, and enhance the value of social
data resources". The open sharing, development and reuse of data have been
elevated to a new height.
Against the backdrop of scientific data
publication for open sharing, many domestic journal publishing units, data
centers and other institutions are actively exploring new data publication
methods to enhance the reuse value of data. As an important journal in the
field of atmospheric science, "Advances in Earth Science" has
launched a special column for data papers to promote the open sharing of data
associated with data papers. To ensure the reliability test of the supporting
data for data papers, with the support of our author group and editorial board,
we will require all authors of accepted data papers to submit the supporting
data of their papers to a public data platform for public preservation and open
sharing. Currently, "Advances in Earth Science" has been included as
journal data on the platform of the National Cryosphere Desert Data Center (http://www.ncdc.ac.cn/).
The National Cryosphere Desert Data Center
is established with the Northwest Institute of Eco-Environment and Resources,
Chinese Academy of Sciences as the supporting unit, in collaboration with the
Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, Chinese Academy of Sciences, the
Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences
& Ministry of Water Resources, the Qinghai Institute of Salt Lakes, Chinese
Academy of Sciences, the Qinghai Institute of Tibetan Plateau Biology, Chinese
Academy of Sciences and other units. The supporting unit mainly highlights the
research characteristics in the cold and arid regions, such as glaciers,
permafrost, deserts, the atmosphere, water and soil, ecology, environment,
resources, engineering and sustainable development. Since the establishment of
the first "Matter Balance Database of Glacier No. 1 on the Tianshan
Mountains" in 1985, over the past 35 years, the National Cryosphere Desert
Data Center has formulated a series of management specifications, measures and
systems for scientific data collection, management, sharing and application. It
introduced the DOI earlier than other data management institutions to protect
the rights and interests of data authors, and has rich experience in scientific
data management, open sharing and application support in related fields.
Therefore, "Advances in Earth
Science" advocates submitting the data associated with data papers to the
National Cryosphere Desert Data Center. During the data submission process, the
type of journal data can be selected according to needs (the recommended type
for our journal is: open after journal data review). Select "Advances in
Earth Science" when adding the publication. If authors who intend to
submit data encounter difficulties, they can consult the editorial office, and
the editorial office will assist authors in successfully submitting the data.
You are welcome to submit data papers to
"Advances in Earth Science", and also welcome to submit your data to
the National Cryosphere Desert Data Center! Finally, we sincerely thank you for
your work in promoting open science!
