Since its establishment, sequence
stratigraphy has profoundly changed the basic principles and research methods
for analyzing sedimentary stratigraphic records, representing an important
revolution in geology. The establishment of a systematic and complete sequence
stratigraphy theory has helped people deeply understand the roles played by
various geological factors in different hierarchical sequence cycles and
sedimentary stacking patterns. It can provide feedback on the mechanisms of
global and local earth changes and the response mechanisms recorded.
As the theory of sequence stratigraphy has
developed to date, various types of sequence stratigraphy models have been
formed, including three-part sequence, four-part sequence, genetic sequence,
transgressive-regressive sequence, autocyclic sequence, isochronous sequence
models, etc., as well as new research methods such as the shoreline migration
trajectory method and the accommodation space method. These sequence
stratigraphy models and research methods have played an active and crucial role
in the exploration and development of energy minerals such as oil, natural gas,
coal, uranium, and gas hydrates, effectively reducing the risks of natural
resource exploration.
In order to exchange the latest theoretical
research and practical application progress in sequence stratigraphy, report on
the frontier trends of the sedimentary sequence discipline and the development
laws of sequence stratigraphy, discuss its future development trends and the
process of standardizing the theory, and serve the exploration and development
of mineral energy, environmental protection, resource utilization, and
sustainable development, etc., the journal "Advances in Earth Science"
specially launches a special column on "sequence stratigraphy".
Professor Zhu Xiaomin and Associate Professor Ge Jiawang are specially invited
to jointly serve as the chief editors of this special column. It is planned to
be published (in the regular issue) in the first half of 2024.

IV. Submission Method
Please submit your manuscript through the
official website of "Advances in Earth Science" (http://www.adearth.ac.cn).
The manuscript should be written in Chinese. When submitting, please indicate
that it is a manuscript for the "sequence stratigraphy" special
column. The types of manuscripts are not limited (research papers, reviews, and
comments are all acceptable), and the length of the paper should be within
15,000 words. For the submission template and specific requirements, please
refer to the submission guidelines on the journal's homepage.
We sincerely invite experts and scholars in
the related fields of "sequence stratigraphy" at home and abroad to
submit their papers enthusiastically!
