Abstract

The International Scientific Ocean Drilling is the largest, most influential and longest-running international cooperative research program in the earth sciences to date. In October 2020, Exploring the Earth by Scientific Ocean Drilling: 2050 Science Framework was released, which propose strategic objectives and flagship initiatives for future scientific ocean drilling. The core contents of its seven strategic objectives, five flagship initiatives and four enabling elements, as well as the organization and operation mechanism of the future international scientific ocean drilling program, were introduced in detail, and on this basis, suggestions are made for China's further participation in international scientific ocean drilling. On the basis of the achievements already made, we will learn from international advanced experience and further strengthen the layout of ocean drilling science, technology and equipment research, organization and management, and talent training, and achieve the goal that China can co-lead the international scientific ocean drilling program in the future.
