A brief introduction to six marine geological reference materials prepared by China during 1986-1996 was given. It includes three polymetallic nodule reference materials GSPN—1-3 and three deep-sea sediment reference materials GSMS—1-3 and these reference materials formed two good reference material series. Comparing with the same kind of the reference materials of America, Russia, India and Japan, the main features of the reference materials as follows:①The reference materials are practical because the samples were taken from the Pacific Ocean CC(Clarion-Clipperton fracture) zone, being mostly rich in manganese nodules in the world and focusing most pioneer areas of “pioneer investors”.②A complete standard sample series with certain content range and proper content gradient can be formed together with the reference materials of America and Russia.③79 constituents were determined and the values of 63 constituents, including recommended values of 58 constituents and the proposed values of 5 constituents, were certified.④14 Chinese laboratories(including Taiwan University ) and 18 foreign laboratories from England, France, German, Russia,Czech,Canada,India and Pakistan took part in the collaborative analysis. These features make the reference materials have a great international impact.
