N2O is one of the important greenhouse gases, and is an intermediate product of nitrification and denitrification. There are a variety of N2O-releasing sources, of which the pedosphere is one of the important N2O-releasing sources. Temperature is one of key factors affecting N2O-releasing flux.
On the basis of enhancing mineralization of organic matter, and inducing non-biological stress on microorganic population as a result of soil freezing-thawing, it is summarized that global freezing-thawing soils are the important N2O-releasing sources in consideration of the characteristics of freezing-thawing soils and wetland in tundra.
Key words: Soil freezing-thawing; Nitrification; Denitrification; Nitrous oxide; Tundra.
