Review on Australian Antarctic Data Management and Its Implication

Abstract

In this article, Australian Antarctic data policy, objective, infrastructure, mechanism and development are reviewed briefly,in combination with the analysis of Chinese Arctic and Antarctic data management. It indicates primarily that the efficient infrastructure of data management is the basis of data management and sharing, and the positive interaction between the web-based data management and the outcome of research project. In particular, authoring the accurate and detail metadata for dataset is always the primary and important step in the course of promoting data management and sharing.
The data management on a national scale mainly depends on: (1)a specific data policy, (2) the data standard, specification and the web-based data platform for data management, sharing and user service, (3) a qualified team of the staff of data management, data service and technical support, and the work performance evaluation system on which the job can be evaluated quantitatively and timely. Besides, the reason for the rapid development of Australian Antarctic Data Center (AADC) and its enterprise are discussed. Undoubtedly, AADC's work is a reference for promoting science data management in China.
