It has been 10 years since the approval of Knowledge Innovation Program of Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS) by the central government. As one backbone and traditional field of the four major branches in the research fields of resources and environment of CAS, Solid Earth science research has made significant progress, represented by progress in various aspects such as newly built research institute, key laboratories and field observation stations, more than a dozen number of 973 projects, and marvelous innovation achievements and prizes. It is predicted finally that Solid Earth science research in CAS will inevitably be in the front line of the whole world.
