In this paper, the advances of mathematical modeling of turbidity maximum in estuaries are introduced in three aspects:① To calculate salinity, contaminant and sediment concentration with flux analysis method to study the mechanism of sediment amassing in estucries.② To establish one dimensional model or some simple model with mass balancing principle to explain the formation of turbidity maximum.③To establish two or three dimensional numerical model with momentum and continuous equations to calculate the dynamical feature and the distribution of mass concentration in estuary. Then analyse the formation and development laws of turbidity maximum under various assumptions.
