ADVANCE IN MARINE ORGANIC GEOCHEMICAL STUDIES OF CHINA

Abstract

Based on the marine organic geochemical studies in last decade, the present work summarizes the studies of Chinese marginal seas and major Chinese estuaries such as the estuaries of Huanghe and Changjiang. The characteristics of the organic matter transport to the sediments of Chinese marginal seas is: terrestrial input increases from the south to the north while the autothonous input show the diverse tendency. In the Changjiang and Huanghe estuaries, terrestrial input contributes the most of the organic matter no matter in the sediments or suspended particulate matter. And some contamination was found in both estuaries. Though the study of biomarkers and paleoceanography in China is progressive, the disparity between national and international studies still should be aroused in future.
