Datasets derived from scientific research projects supported by national financial should be archived and shared. Scientific data archiving and sharing will not only promote data resources integration, sharing, adding value, but also enhance the scientific projects management level. The National Basic Research Program (also called 973 Program) is China's on-going national keystone basic research program. Based on deep consideration, Research projects in resource and environment field of 973 Program are selected as a pilot engineering for data archiving and sharing and launched in March, 2008. In the past one year, 49 projects in resource and environment field of 973 program are divided into 3 types, i.e., finished project, near finish project, on-going project. Data archiving center designed data archiving work flow which included 4 phases, i.e., data plan drawing up phase, data archiving preparation phase, data submission phase, data sharing and management phase. The 4 phases cover the whole project research cycle from the project was launched to the project would be overviewed 5 years later. Till the end of October, 2008, 24 projects in 973 Program submitted their research datasets to data archiving center. All the data was accumulated to 620GB, including 862 datasets. In order to ensure the data archiving quality, there are 7 data archiving standards and specifications are designed, including metadata standard, data document format specification, etc. 973 Program data archiving and sharing platform are researched and developed facing to 3 kinds of users, i.e., data manager, data provider and data users individually. In order to provide perfect data services interface, all the archival data types are analyzed. These data can be divided into 5 types, i.e., long term fixed point monitoring and surveying data, regional survey and statistic data, model calculation product data, examination and analysis data, impersonality pictures and subjective description data. Data display schema for different data types are designed web sharing.
