Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) could enter into aquatic environment by varieties of means. The researches concerned on their pollutions in aquatic environment are of great significance to the understanding of the PBDE biogeochemical processes and their ecological risks. Based on the PBDE levels in water, sediments and aquatic organism, this paper attempts to review the distribution characteristics, possible sources, trends, bioaccumulation, biological magnification and risks of PBDEs in aquatic environment. Further, the status of PBDE pollutions and the progress in their researches of China were summarized. At the same time, the shortage and the trends of the researches of PBDEs in aquatic environment are discussed in order to provide valuable reference for the researchers and managers.
