In this paper, the status [WTBX]quo[WTBZ] of researches on atmospheric boundary layer over inhomogeneous underlying surface and issues confronted in the current researches are reviewed. The origins, developments of scientific methods and means, and issues to be settled in the researches on atmospheric boundary layer over inhomogeneous underlying surface, which become the difficult point and hot topic of atmospheric boundary layer research in recent years, are summarized. The tendency and scientific methods in the future developments of inhomogeneous atmospheric boundary layer research are explored.
