Zheng Hongbo. LAND-OCEAN COMPARISON AND INTERACTIONS IN IODP[J]. Advances in Earth Science, 2003, 18(5): 722-729.
Integrate Ocean Drill Program (IODP) will be initiated in the year 2003. Compared with ODP, the scientific scope of IODP is much wider, covering more extensive sea floor and research disciplines, including deep ocean biosphere, mental and crust structure, subduction factory and seismology, global changes, and ocean resources. This paper will review some advantageous aspects of geoscience research in China, focusing on Cenozoic geological history such as the evolution of the overall topography of China, the uplift of Himalaya and Tibetan Plateau, the opening of the west Pacific marginal seas, and the establishment of the Asian monsoon system. The characteristics of the Cenozoic geology in China form the base for Chinese geologists to be involved in international collaboration during the course of IODP.
