This paper deals with the advance in the study of terrestrial Permian-Triassic boundary (TPTB). At first, some index TPTB sections and their research backgrounds are introduced. Then, the research status on the synthesis of the TPTB, including biostratigraphy, eventostratigraphy, isotopic dating, magnetostratigraphy and sequence stratigraphy etc., is analyzed. Finally, the existing problems and the next research directions about the TPTB study are assessed. According to TPTB biostratigraphy, more and more evidence prove that, like the mixing fauna feature in marine Permian-Triassic boundary strata, there also exist mixing fossils of Late Permian and Early Triassic in TPTB strata. Among the mixing fossils, different sort of biota has different time limit. Meanwhile, the TPTB beds with vertebrates are limited, so the definite boundary marked by vertebrate(Lystrosaurus)is usually uncertain. As a result, it is needed to restudy and confirm the standard fossils for defining the terrestrial basal Triassic. At the same time, the eventostratigraphic markers may become the tache for high-resolution marine and nonmarine Permian-Triassic boundary correlation.
