ZHONG Decai. THE DYNAMIC CHANGES AND TRENDS OF MODERN DESERT IN CHINA[J]. Advances in Earth Science, 1999, 14(3): 229-234.

In the paper, based on remote sensing, map and field investigation, the paper discussed the dynamic change and development trends of modern deserts in China. The Change regularities of modern deserts are the following aspects:①the deserts in China evolve slowly and its annual rate is 0.2%,i.e,there is 1618 km2 desert to invert, activate, enlarge and shrink every year;②the deserts in China invert significantly and its rate reaches to 1060 km2/a;③the deserts in China activate apparently and its rate is 610 km2/a;④the deserts in China enlarge unsignificantly and its rate is 310 km2/a;⑤It is rare to shrink and its rate is only 10 km2/a;⑥the total development trends of modern deserts in China are to evolve to become grassland and oasis slowly, its rate is 445 km2/a.
The main reason of modern changes is the artificial action. Because the people harness and transform the deserts, the modern deserts invert and evolve to become grassland and oasis gradually. But overgrazing and overfelling cause to activate and enlarge some deserts.
