The IGCP246 project focuses on the evaluation of major Neogene events in the circum-Pacific region. This paper synthesizes its main results, including 1) the mid-Neogene climatic optimum; 2) cooling of sea water and upwelling events; 3)major biologic evolutions, and 4) tectonism and there lated palaeobiogeography. The causes and consequences of these events and their interrelationships are emphasized. Also discussed is its enlightenment of IGCP246.
