Wang Hongtao, Qiang Zuji. RESEARCH ON EARTHQUAKE PREDICTION USING SATELLITE THERMAL INFRARED ANOMALY[J]. Advances in Earth Science, 1995, 10(6): 537-541.

Tectonical earthquakes are the results of abrupt fault slipping. In fracturing process, Strong earthquakes not only release huge strain energy, and produce thermal effects on active fault segments which make water stored in rock and soil evaporation and low air electrolytic dissociation. At the same time, the effects induce earth lightning on several wave segments including thermal infrared spectrum anomaly. Ahead of intermediate and strong earthquakes, it causes thermal infrared anomaly more evident with strengthening of fault gas releasing and low air electrolytic dissociation. So using interpretation technique of satellite thermal anomaly, we can quickly catch thermal infrared anomaly signal in large scale ahead of earthquake. Combining this new technique with the fault activity, we predicted some of intermediate and strong earthquakes in China with good reliability and attained some experience. It shows that the method is a new way to predicting earthquake.
