Advance in statistical meteorology in recent years are reviewed. The application of statistical methods in operational forecasts, synoptic climatology, multivariate analysis, time series, orthogonal expansion, statistical dynamic prediction and nonlinear dynamics are covered. It is shown that the development of operational forecasts and need for combining statistical methods with dynamic methods should be stressed in future.
