The definition for sustainable development we agreed is that Current generations should meet their needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs. Sustainable development requires that human social-economic system must develop under carrying capacity of ecosystem, and human development cannot only aims at economy growth, but to improve human welfare. The concept of social capital provides a useful tool for sustainable development. It not only enhances understanding of sustainable development, but also promotes sustainable development by restricting use of natural capital and reducing destruction of environment, increasing efficiency of using produced capital, and making the best of human capital.
How social capital promotes sustainable development is the overarching challenge for huaman today. This paper elaborates the concept of social capital, identifies some of the levers and measurement that might help attain it, describes relationship between social capital and sustainable development by reviewing economic development , sustainable management of natural resource, protection of environment and poverty.It is meaningful for understanding and promoting sustainable development.
