Achievements of the scientific ocean drilling are closely related to the developments and renovations of new technologies in drilling ,coring ,measurement and observation. Scientific objectives of IODP require new technologies. The use of multiple drilling platforms will permit operations in wider and deeper water areas. By use of new coring technologies, scientists can obtain a wide range of samples from rocks to fluids, while at the same time maintaining the in situ situation and enhancing core recovery. LWD will be used to acquire real information in subseafloor. Many new measuring tools are being developed to satisfy the demands of downhole measurements. Tools for long-term observation are to be developed that are able to obviate drilling perturbations.
