From the1950’s, the study of China’s continental shelf Geology has made great progress, especially in the study of the environmental evolution of Late Quaternary. This paper summarized the new advances in this field.
1.Environmental evolution on the China’s shelf during the LGM period:
①Sea-level changes and land-ocean distribution during the LGM period;
②The prevailed winter monsoon and its environmental effect;
③Relationship of sea-level and river retreated and extended.
2.The shelf desertization and its evidences during the LGM period in the marine stratum:
①Cold-dry environment extended into the exposed shelf region;
②Aeolian deposits and derivative sediment on the shelf;
③Buried geomorphological evidences of shelf desertization.
3.Origin of the buried loess in the sea bottom and exposed loess in the coastal zone:
①The relationship of desert and loess deposits;
②Shelf desertization and the coastal loess;
③The strong paleomonsoon prevailed and loess accumulation on the exposed shelf area.
