In recent years, the golden tide dominated by Sargassum has become a kind of emerging marine ecological hazards occurring frequently at home and abroad. The main harm of golden tides is introduced there. The research progresses on source tracing, fundamental biology and ecology, early warning and monitoring, are generally mentioned. The development and superiority on ecological dynamics of golden tides are mainly discussed. We believe that in the future, with the highlight of the integration of multi-disciplines and multi-means, China will aim to carry out systematic research on key physical, chemical and biological processes of ecological dynamics of golden tides and their coupling effects, and on the driving mechanisms of the joint outbreak of golden tides and other marine ecological hazards (such as green tides and red tides) and their correlation. More attention could be paid to the technology fusion among the marine environmental monitoring and marine 3D observation for early warning, molecular biology and ecology for fast species identification and traceability, the statistical model for biomass/primary productivity evaluation as well as the numerical model for the trajectory and key processes trend prediction and risk assessment. With the development of ecological dynamics numerical simulation technology, it is necessary to make efforts in building the operational forecasting system for golden tides, so as to further strengthen the prevention and mitigation of seaweed ecological hazards of the seas in China.
