The general features of ultrahigh-pressure metamorphic rocks discovered recently from Eurasian continent, including occurrence, rock type, crystalline condition and tectonic location, are summarized briefly and the progresses and problems of ultrahigh-pressure metamorphism and geodynamics are reviewed in this paper. According to the characteristics of protolith of eclogites, the discovery of the different types of non-mafic ultrahigh-pressure metamorphic rocks and the correlation of both P-T condition and age between retrograde metamorphism of eclogites and regional metamorphism of country rocks in the Dabie-Sulu district, ultrahigh-pressure metamorphism is considered to be a new type of regional metamorphism. The sequence of high-pressure metamorphic belt in the Dabie Mountains and the occurrence of coesite-bearing granulite retrograded from eclogite in eastern Shangdong suggest that the satisfactory geodynamic model for ultrahigh-pressure metamorphism has not been established up to now. On the basis of petrological and mineralogical works, the authors emphasize that geochemical, tectonic, experimental petrological and geophysical studies of ultrahigh-pressure metamorphic complex should be strengthened in the future.
