Shi Zhong,Chen Jiyu,Yu Zhiying. SEDIMENTATION ON THE INTERTIDAL MUDFLAT IN CHINA:AN OVERVIEW[J]. Advances in Earth Science, 1996, 11(6): 555-562.

Geomorphological and sedimentological studies on the intertidal mudflat of China started from the early 1960s. However, the extensive research has mainly been carried out over the last 14 years (1980 -1994). This paper reviews the significant progresses in research on the sedimentation on the intertidal mudflat in China. Sedimentation on the Chinese intertidal mudflat has moved from the early decriptive geomorphological and sedimentological studies to the detailed quantitative monitoring of morphodynamic processes, time scale from the long term to one week or one day. Application of loose boundary hydraulics to the study of the intertidal mudflat enables the erosion and deposition processes to be quantified. Numerical modeling of the physical processes of "waves erode sediments, tides transport sediments", provide us a better way to understand the mechanisms of erosion and deposition on the intertidal mudflat.
