The 1997 IGBP DIS/WDC workshop have succeeded in establishing a closer relationship between scientists and data managers, in identifying key current deficiencies in both the IGBP core project data management and in the WDC system, and in recommending actions needed to ensure effective data activities within the IGBP. Both IGBP and WDC will be committed to seeing these actions get carried out. This paper give some details of the workshop and some considerations on enhancing cooperation between IGBP and WDC D in China.
