Some investigation :results about currents, eddies and upwellings in the South China Sea (abbreviated as SCS) ,and differnt viewpoints about some problems(such as the Branch of the Kuroshio in Taiwan Strait)are briefly reviewed in this paper. It is pointed out that the characteristics of basic current patterns in the upper and intermediate layers in SCS and the changes of Guangdong Coastal Current, they are different from those of the East China Sea and Yellow Sea;The Zhujiang diluted flow and upwellings in SCS have their own characteristics. There are basically three major currents is the upper and intermediate layers in the Northern SCS. They are the nearly south-westward-flowing Guangdongcoastal current, the north-eastward-flowing SCS warm current, and the nearly south-westward-flowing SCS branch of the Kuroshio. These three current form a distribution of south-westward , north-eastward and south-westward check in the Northern SCS.
