The new progress in lake sedinments and environmental changes in China after late 1980' s has been comprehensively discussed. The highlights emphasized in the paper are Asian paleomonsoon changes recorded by lake sediments, Environmental changes of Qinghai-Xizang Plateau recorded by lacustrine sediments, lake responses for the nature-human interactionet al. Meanwhile the important aspects of the research on lake sediments and environmental changes in the future are pointed out, including the quantitative relationship between lake environment proxies and climate factors, high-resolution evolutionary sequence and spacial differentiation of environments, modern lake dynamic process and environment,Chinese lake database in Quaternary and global changes, comparative study of different natural records with multidisciplinary research.
