At present, natural gas plays a more important role in the energy consumption of the world. Natural gas has been considered as the energy of 21st century by many scientists, technologists and managers. With the discovery of new gas fields, more resources have been exploring, more transnational pipelines have been building in the world, and the international trade scope of natural gas has been broadening step by step, natural gas industry and natural gas utilization shows a strong tendency of globalization. Coal energy has been always the dominant fossil energy in China for many years. Facing the challenges and the opportunities of the development of gas industry in the world, China has been adjusting timely its long-term energy strategy, invested heavily in natural gas exploration, production, utilization and infrastructure. Natural gas has good prospects in China in future. In 2000, the composition of natural gas is 3.7 percent in energy production and 3.4 percent in energy consumption in China. By the present growth rate, in 2010, the composition of natural gas will reach to 9.7 percent in energy production and 9.4 percent in energy consumption, the amount of natural gas consumption will be more than 100 billion m3 in China. It can be predicted that natural gas industry will turn into the new growth point of Chinese national economy in 21st century.
