In this paper we compare some polarimetric properties of rough sea surfaces from multi band and multi polarization radar images of South China Sea. Radar images used for this study were acquired during the SIR C/X SAR mission in 1994. With results of polarimetric analysis, the individual dependencies of radar signatures of wind generated rough sea surfaces polarization can be quite different. This enables us to identify radar signatures of oceanic origin in multi band and multi polarization data to estimate the corresponding oceanographic parameters and wind variations independently. This behavior results in different dependencies of radar signatures of rough sea surface on polarization. Accordingly, a perfect scattering model of wind generated sea surface of signatures may be possible where multi band and multi polarization radar imagery is available with some in situ data.
