From the view of the historical retrospects and future prospects of geography, ecology, environmental sciences, and their contributions to the study on the interaction between man and environment were discussed. It was pointed out that, for the needs of the sustainable development which was the main topic of "Agenda 21", the natural and social scientists must work together and work hard to built the knowlege of the global changes and to improve our related decision making.
