This paper reviews the origination and development process of desertification study at home and abroad, and discusses the study status. The debates about the definition, causes, time and space dimensions, process and indicators of desertification are introduced. At last, this paper analyses the problems in study of desertification and its development perspective, and putsforward the important study subjects of desertification from now on.
