In order to explain why the quantum of energy consumption grew so fast in china in recent years, the concept and computing technology of virtual energy was put forward in this paper. The calculations indicated that the annual net export quantum of virtual energy of China was 188 385 000 tons of standard coal in 2003 and 246 617 000 tons of standard coal in 2004. In conclusion, the net export quantum of virtual energy growing too fast results in the growth rate of the quantum of energy consumption exceeding the GDP growth rate in China in recent years.
