The rodingites are a kind of special metasomatite ,and mostly related to serpentinised ultramafic rocks. They are the result of calcic metasomatism between calcium-rich fluid and related rocks during serpentinization. The serpentinised ultramafic rocks are either end-members of ophiolite or other genetical ultramafic rocks such as Archaean greenstone, Alaskan or Alpine-type rocks, and the rock type may be the dunite, harzburgite and pyroxenite. The formation of rodingites depends on the serpentinization and degree of calcic metasomatism, and has no relationship for genetical types, tectonic setting and age of ultramafic rocks. The viewpoint that rodingites are the end-member of ophiolite or the auxiliary sign for ophiolite discrimination needs to be corrected.
