HU Ming-yi,HE Ping. THE STUDY OF TIDAL STORM DEPOSITS AND ITS RESEARCH SIGNIFCIANCE[J]. Advances in Earth Science, 2002, 17(3): 391-395.
Storm deposit(tempesite) constitute an important conception which was not put forward until the late 1970s, and it was considered as an great discovery in sedimentology. The research work in the past, however, was mostly focused on the storm deposits in the shallow-sea shelf(between the fair weather wave base and the storm wave base), the reports of the storm deposits on the seashore easpecially on tidal flat are rarely seen. The present paper systematically introduces the reseach accomplishments of modern storm deposits in tidal flat environment, meanwhile introduces the tidal flat tempesite identified in the ancient rock record. The tidal flat storm deposit is composed of dolostone accumulation bodies, whose bottom has pocket mold and channel mold structures and whose top is convex upward in cloud-like form. The psephitic clasts are arranged mainly in radiating pattern and appear macroscopically in bird-foot or in v-shape pattern. Finally the paper points out the significance of studying tidal flat storm deposits.
