TANG Xiangyu,YANG Hao,LI Renying,ZHAO Qiguo. A REVIEW ON PROGRESSES ON APPLICATION OF THE 7Be TRACER TECHNIQUE IN THE ESTIMATE OF SOIL EROSION[J]. Advances in Earth Science, 2001, 16(4): 520-525.

7Be is a cosmogenic radionuclide (half-life, 53.3 days) produced by spallation of oxygen and nitrogen atoms within the troposphere and stratosphere. Subsequently, it is transported to the soil surface by wet and dry deposition, and fixed by the soil particles rapidly and strongly. It has a similar environmental chemical behavior as 137Cs. Therefore, it can be used to document the short-term rates, patterns and seasonal variations of soil redist ribution representing the influences of specific land use or particular event, such as a storm. The 7Be tracer technique can be used as a complement to ot her alternative radioactive tracer techniques (such as 137Cs and 210Pb), which can be employed to examine the medium or long term rate soil erosion, in the investigation on the characteristics of soil erosion occurred, especially, in the analysis of the dominant type of erosion process, within the specific catchment. The existing quantitative models for soil erosion estimate using 7Be tracer technology was reviewed in this paper, and some additional intensive works were also suggested.
