In this paper, after the analysis of the relationship between Geo-Spatial Information Science(GSIS) and global change monitoring & continuous development of society, the background of GSIS generation and a definition of GSIS are presented. Then, its content and development is summarized. The main research tasks in GSIS are introduced. Finally, the future of GSIS is prospected.
