Zhang Jinglian,Zhang Pingzhong. A DISCUSSION OF PYRITE CATALYSIS ON THE HYDROCARBON GENERATION PROCESS[J]. Advances in Earth Science, 1996, 11(3): 282-287.
It is well known that some inorganic minerals such as clay minerals, carbonates, quartz are effective catalysts in the evolution of organic matter. This paper discusses the catalysis of pyrite in hydrocarbon generation. The kerogen types are related to the content, geometry of pyrite,The data showed that pyrite sulfur content of the kerogen is the function of its active energy and reaction rate. An assumption that pyrite is also a geologic catalyst of petroleum generation is presented. Since a great number of the world oil are derived from the sulfur-rich kerogens, the current task is to investigate the mechanism of pyrite catalysis in petroleum generation.
