With the development of the national economic construction, the scale of different kinds of construction is becoming more and more big,and consequently the engineering geological problems met in construction are also becoming more and more complex. Engineering geology,an applied and younger science,is now facing with many great difficulties and challenges which never occurred before,and at the same time has also an opportunity to be developed rapidly.This paper, based on the subject and tasks of engineering geology and its research state,has disussed the difficulties and the challenges faced by engineering geology in mor-den engineering construction circumstances,as well as the prospect of the development of engineering geology.It is believed in this paper that,engineering geology would be developed rapidly due to these challenges ,and finally a system with different kinds of subject branches would be e-volved.
